Exploring the depths of faith, Scripture, and life

Hi, I'm Zachary Holbrook, an author and amateur Bible scholar from middle Tennessee. A friend once told me that the Bible is an ocean-- not something to read or even to master, but something to be immersed in. The more I've studied the Bible, the more I've found it to be true. The more I read the Bible, the more I see connections between different parts, layers and layers of meaning waiting to be explored. Not only that, the story of the Bible has a living relationship with my own life. I live my life following Jesus, the hero of that story, and the more I do so, the more I understand the Bible-- and the more I understand the Bible, the more I understand my life.

I write essays about my journey into the depths of the Bible in hopes of inspiring others in a similar love and appreciation of the Biblical story. My fundamental belief is that everything in the Bible is charged with meaning and applicable to Christians today-- even the weird bits like the talking donkey and the endless genealogies. I ask questions about these weird bits and try to find answers, and I find that searching the Bible for these answers works as an exercise to strengthen my faith in God.

I share my writing through my email list. If you sign up, you'll get a series of in-depth delivered to your inbox at a rate of once per week. If you're curious about how Balaam's talking donkey reveals the character of God, or why the apostle James uses Elijah as a model of prayer, I have some ideas to share with you. My goal isn't to give the definite interpretation of any Biblical passage (that would be trying to drink the ocean) but go on a journey of growth in wisdom and knowledge-- and to invite you on the same journey. I also write fiction-- novels and short stories filled with humor and hope. You can find more about my fiction writing here: https://authorholbrook.com/
